College Grads Moving Back Home

Where do you see yourself after graduation? After you paint yourself into a corner office with a magnificent view of downtown, take a few minutes and imagine the rest of your surroundings. Perhaps you plan to rent an apartment, drive a late model used car, and party with friends on the weekeds. While that is a great dream, it is far from reality. Take a look at this artilce by Erin Brown from the Topeka Capital:

"According to an online survey by CollegeGrad.com, 80 percent of 2009 college graduates moved back home. This is an increase from 77 percent in 2008, 73 percent in 2007, and 67 percent in 2006. Two thousand respondents participated in the CollegeGrad.com online survey, and according to the poll, nearly 70 percent of those surveyed didn't have jobs when they graduated."

I think nearly all grads see themselves as employed somewhere in their field of study after collecting their diploma on commencement day. It seems that the dismal state of economy has gotten in the way of many graduate's dreams. How you can protect yourself is anyone's guess. If I had to offer one morsel of advice, it would be to get out and get a job, any job, even if it isn't where you want to spend your life. Volunteer in your spare time to gain valuable experience while you wait for your golden opportunity.
