There is Still Time to Take a Campus Tour
It's hard to believe that July is nearly over and college classes will soon begin. Did you take the time to go on a campus tour? If not, there is still time. I touched on this topic in March, but thought I'd post a reminder on what questions to ask before you sign on the bottom line. The source of my information was from Good Morning America. Here are some of their suggustions:
Before your visit
- Team up with other parents and students to spread the cost of travel
- Contact the college to arrange an overnight stay in the dormitory
- Meet with alumni and ask them questions about the college
- Contact professors, coaches, and campus organizations that are of interest to your student
- Take a virtual campus tour from the college website and sit in on a lecture from a faculty member
- Connect with current students on Facebook and ask for suggestions on who to see on campus
- Make a reservation to take a campus tour
While on campus
- Be sure to sign in at the Admission or Campus Touring Office and leave your contact information
- Be sure to ask questions of people in addition to your tour guide
- Tune into the college radio station, grab a college newspaper, and check out the bulletin boards
- Visit the bookstore
- Enjoy a meal in the cafeteria
- Make note of where freshman students park their cars
- Remember to thank professors, coaches, etc. for their time!
While time is running out and many courses may be full, make an appointment to visit the campus and talk with faculty and students. You may discover that the environment may not be what you expect, or, it may be just exactly what you want!
