This course will explore various theoretical perspectives on international relations, and on the role of international organizations more specifically. The course focus will center on examining the historical evolution of the Untied Nations and its precursors. We will discuss the UNĂ­s structure and governance role in international peace and security, terrorism, human rights, development, and the environment. We will also explore the weaknesses and strengths of the UN and its agencies along with other international organizations and the tension faced by globalization, supranational governance, and national sovereignty.
