For Post-Secondary Institutions

KSCareers.org provides a directory of online courses in a convenient way for students and counselors. The directory is provided as a means for high school students to find courses within the career clusters and pathways in which they are interested. In most cases the students should be able to earn concurrent credit(high school and college credit) for these courses, depending upon agreements between the students high school and the institutions in question.

For Post Secondary Insitutions: Listing your Courses on KSCareers.org

We will need four piece of information to prepare your account and course listings on the web site.

1. Administrative Contact Information.

We will need the name, email address, and phone number of the staff member who will be the primary content administrator and contact for this site. That person will be listed as the owner of the courses and sections posted on the site, and will have access to be able to edit the course descriptions once they have been imported.

2. Institution Description

The website will have a landing page for your institution where will will post some basic information. We will need the following information:

Official Institution Name
Web address
Description
Logo/image (images larger than 300x300 will be scaled to those dimensions)
Description of enrollment process for High School Students (including links to important forms, web pages, etc.)
Description of Process to earn Concurrent Credit
Description of enrollment process for Adults

The Enrollment information will be especially important for students (and their counselors) considering concurrent credit at your institution.

3. Course list.

The website will list a catalog description of each course, categorized into Career Clusters and Pathways.

We will need a comma-delimited file that contains basic information about each course:

Course Name
Catalog Code (EN101, etc).
Description
Prerequisites (if any)

If you have an idea for which career cluster and pathway is appropriate for these courses, feel free to add that as an addition field. Our staff will make a starting categorization as we place your courses on the site. Once they're created, you will have the capability to log in and change those clusters and pathways.

4. Section list for the Upcoming Term

The website will provide a list of upcoming/current sections of your courses being offered in the upcoming term (201001). A few months before each term, we will send out a request for updated information about those sections -- and if sections change you will always be able to go to the site and edit them.

We will need a comma-deliimted file that contains the following information about each section:

Catalog Code (must match Catalog Code from Course Description)
Section Number
Start Date
End Date
Medium (Internet, ITV, Blended, etc)
Term (for example, 201001)

If you have a data file that contains that information (in some cases, post secondary institutions may provide a similar file to KBOR or another agency. We may be able to work with that existing file if it contains this information.

###

Sample csv files for the catalog and section data have been attached to this page (see below).

Once we have this data, we will create your presence on the KScareersorg web site and make your online offerings available to high school students across the state.

Your administrative contact for the site will receive a second email detailing the controls and functions they can take advantage of on the website.

If you have any questions about KSCareers, this data import process, or your account on the site, please don't hesitate to contact me by email (johnj@essdack.org) or phone (620.931.2523).
